ojb houston #6 - labash
Two weeks ago, I went to LABASH in Manhattan, Kansas at Kansas State University. Getting from Houston to Manhattan was a little bit of a journey, but it was worth it! Manhattan was super cute and Kansas State's campus was gorgeous, the buildings looked like castles. I got to meet a lot of new people at LABASH and connected with students from last year too! I went to sessions about public engagement, hand graphics, collaborative design, mental health, mission driven planting design, non-design roles in landscape architecture, and what justice looks like in relation to landscape architecture. The theme of LABASH this year was trailblazing, we talked a lot about what it means to be the upcoming generation of landscape architects. My favorite sessions were the ones about planting design and non-design roles. In my time spent outside of sessions, I was exploring Manhattan. My favorite part was going to their insect zoo.
collaborative design/sketching activity

it's not labash without happy hour
how many stick bugs do you see in this photo?
Since my last post, I've been primarily working on a 70-acre masterplan for a site in Austin. I'm the one doing the 3D modeling in Sketchup and Lumion. Right now we're coordinating with the architect and getting the site graded in sketchup, so my renderings are pretty bare at the moment. Over the next three weeks, we'll be getting ready for our final presentation, so I'll be doing cost estimates and refining the 3D model.
Anyone else see the mario movie? Loooove jack black as bowser, did not love seth rogan as dk. Cute movie, I'm excited for the sequels. happy shy guy made an appearance.

do you have to make all of those buildings in sketchup? how does that work?
ReplyDeletewe're working with a separate architecture firm for this project, so I've been modeling the ground plane and they've been modeling the buildings, and we send those models back and forth to be rendered together :) if it were up to me i would just model white masses to represent the architecture, but i understand wanting to show the entire character of a design
Deleteooooh my brain cannot comprehend physically modeling super detailed buildings like that lol
