Civil Engineer Based

As most of yall know I am interning for a civil engineering firm. I have come to find out that counties and cities require engineers to do the grading, storm water pipe sizing for projects. The landscape architects at Johnson do not do any grading or pipe sizing, which I am bummed about. I really wanted to use that knowledge, and freshen up on what I have learned so far in school.

On Thursday my boss and I did a site visit to a neighborhood that Johnson is a part of. My boss was checking to see if the landscape contractor has been following the plan for berm buffers. The landscape contractor was supposed to install 3 gallon muhly grass and other tall grasses. The site is quite large. So, I believe the plant schedule called for 1,000+ 3 gallon grasses, but the contractor had problems finding that many. This caused the landscaper to install two one gallons or two 4" flats in one hole instead of one 3 gallon. My boss understood why, but the codes requires 3 gallons, because the county wants the plants to look full. My boss told the engineer over the project to tell the landscape contractor to put a pause on the planting, while we see if the county is alright with more plants of smaller sizes.

After the neighborhood visit, my boss and I went to a residential property to see if the contractor used products that follow the codes of the county. Somethings we were checking on were if the roof, roof trim, exterior color, and vegetation, were approved colors, styles, and size. The contractor provides pictures of the products that the contractor is going to use to construct the house, to my boss. After the house is built, my boss visits the house to see if the products match. This time the exterior wall color did not match the sample, but the color used could be on the approved color list.

My parents drove in this weekend to bring me a few last minute items for LSU's Europe spring break trip, later this week. I showed my parents around Fort Myers, and the islands of Sanibel and Captiva. It was really nice to see familiar faces.

    I miss yall greatly.
