Back at it with Perry Becker

Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the transition from the 24/7 grind of school to the profitable life of an intern where you get to actually leave your work behind and make money from your sweat and tears. I know I am! The move back to Orlando was an easy one, and I have settled into a quaint airbnb not too far from the University of Central Florida. The room is smaller than the one at my home in Baton Rouge, but it comes with a queen bed. I have never owned a bed larger than a twin, so you can best believe I'm living like a king!

Starting back at PBD was quite informal and quick, with my associates wasting little time on pleasantries and immediately putting me on my first project. The project that I have been mainly working on the past two weeks has been a port in Yucatan, Mexico.  Originally, the clients received a concept package from an architecture firm and came to us for landscape architectural services. However, the architecture firm's design was simply too complex for its own good, and while the renderings were stunning, many of the design's features were too small to accommodate the massive crowds from cruise ships docking at the port. So, we designed something completely new for the client with included retail corridors, a lazy river, a massive circular pool, and an artificial cenote to act as the central anchor for the property. The clients were sold on the new design, so we are currently moving into schematic design.

The office is a bustling place with lots of different conversations happening at once, from the benefits of using AI generated imaging to who owns the most tiki mugs in the office (the record holder owns 52 mugs). The two most interesting projects in my opinion that PBD is handling at this time is the renovation of the Mai Kai Restaurant and Polynesian Show in Fort Lauderdale and the repaving of many of the countries in the world showcase at EPCOT. More projects include chimpanzee habitats for a nearby zoo, several multi-family residential projects, and resorts ranging across the Bahamas! I love that I get to wear my Hawaiian shits to work!

That about sums up my update. Once again, I hope everyone is enjoying themselves and learning more about what our future careers hold! I miss all of you guys and wish you the best of luck!

Abram :)
